Terms of use

Last updated 28 July 2026

These terms apply when you use AutoCensus. By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Who we are

AutoCensus is a service of Colada Group Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 11207868. Our full details are on our legal page. You can reach us at [email protected].

Using the site

AutoCensus is free to use. You may look up vehicles and read our statistics for your own purposes, personal or business.

You may not:

We apply rate limits, and we may restrict or block access that appears automated or abusive.

Accuracy, and what you can rely on

We take reasonable care to present information accurately. Our data comes from the DVLA's Vehicle Enquiry Service and the DVSA's MOT History service, and we show what those records contain. We do not control those records and we cannot correct errors within them.

Tax figures are estimates, calculated from published rates and the vehicle's record. They are not official quotations and may differ from what the DVLA charges. Where a record does not support a single figure, we show a range rather than guess.

Survival counts and MOT statistics are derived figures. They come with limitations, which we describe alongside them.

We do not represent that the information is complete, current or free from error, and we do not accept responsibility for decisions taken in reliance on it — including decisions to buy, sell, price or insure a vehicle. If a decision matters to you, check it against the original source.

What our checks do not cover

AutoCensus shows what the DVLA and DVSA publish. We do not have access to finance, insurance or police databases, so our checks do not tell you whether a vehicle has outstanding finance, has been written off, or has been reported stolen.

Do not treat an AutoCensus check as the only check before buying a vehicle. For those matters you need a commercial vehicle history provider.

Our data and yours

The underlying vehicle and MOT data is public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0, and you are free to use it under that licence. The way we present, analyse and write about it — our census figures, our commentary, our design — belongs to Colada Group Ltd. You may quote or link to it with attribution; you may not reproduce it wholesale.

Availability

We aim to keep the site available, but we do not guarantee it. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it, and we depend on government services that are outside our control.

Links to other sites

Where we link to other websites, including GOV.UK, we are not responsible for their content.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.

Subject to that, we are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site or from reliance on information shown on it.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change is significant we will make that clear on the site.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
